Why do I have Dyscalculia?

There hasn’t been much research on why people have Dyscalculia - but there are 2 main theories.

Genes & Heredity

GENES & HEREDITY - If your Mum or Dad weren’t very good with numbers then there is a chance they also have Dyscalculia. This probably stretches way back into the family line. The only difference is, in the past, there was no diagnosis at all. In fact, it has been such a recent thing most people still don’t know or haven’t heard about it. You should thank your lucky stars that today we are more aware of learning difficulties and are able to find a way around the issue.

BRAIN DEVELOPMENT - Brain studies have revealed differences in the wiring of the brain of people with Dyscalculia and people without. The brains actually look different! Scientists are trying to see if there are ways to help “rewire” the brain to make math easier.

To us - it doesn’t matter if you do or if you don’t have Dyscalculia. The important thing is KNOWING! That way you can do something about it and help yourself finally learn numbers. In a perfect world we would be able to teach every brain everything it needs to know. It simply boils down to how you learn.

That is why tools like Table Fables can help you learn your basic maths. This will give you a strong starting point and help you avoid maths anxiety - which typically goes hand in hand with Dyscalculia.
